Welcome to the November 2023 edition of the ECCP Monthly Newsletter!
As we approach the festive season, we at the ECCP have much to celebrate. The last month has seen a particular flurry of activity amongst our cluster community across the globe.
Whether pushing forward the green transition at the Clusters meet Regions event in Düsseldorf or discovering Asian markets at our Matchmaking event in Singapore, our cluster community continues to drive resilience and change through collaboration.
The new year promises to bring many more exciting opportunities. We are particularly pleased to share the Open Call for organisers of future Clusters meet Regions events and to remind you of the Open Call for the 3rd Cluster Booster Academy. These events are critical for the interconnectivity, prosperity and adaptability of our community and we look forward to the fresh possibilities of next year’s programme.

It brought together a diverse array of experts and policymakers to discuss the role of clusters in fostering sustainable and technological advancement in the North Rhine-Westphalia region.

The Clusters meet Regions event in Iasi, Romania, delved into the theme of “Clusters as drivers of regional innovation eco-systems”, with a particular focus on the North-East region of Romania. The event covered a range of themes, from internationalisation to clusters’ role in regional R&D ecosystems and marked a significant step towards improving regional innovation ecosystems through clusters across Europe.

Clusters meet Regions in Kraków, Poland – 11-12 December 2023
This event aims to explore how regional development agencies, clusters and other actors can foster stronger collaboration in the implementation of regional and national economic development policies. The specific aim of the event is to foster wider uptake and development of aerospace technologies in regions, smart city concepts, life sciences clusters and increased use of funding opportunities in Poland.

The EU-South Africa Matchmaking event in Johannesburg, South Africa, focused on strengthening international business and innovation links. The event facilitated Cluster to Cluster (C2C), Cluster to Business (C2B) and Business to Business (B2B) collaborations, focusing on sectors like Agri-food, Green Industries, Chemicals and Metals, Tourism, Transport (both Maritime and Automotive), Digital Tech, Textiles and Leather. It built on the strong trade relations established with the 1999 EU-South Africa Trade, Development and Cooperation Agreement, with the EU being a key trading partner with South Africa, the second largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The second edition of the EU-Singapore Matchmaking Event provided a fertile ground for EU clusters, SMEs, and start-ups to explore business opportunities. It was a melting pot of ideas, expertise, and potential partnerships. Participants were poised to share their insights, embrace new perspectives, and forge strategic alliances with their Asian counterparts.
Key figures:
- It showcased international collaboration, with a 34-member EU delegation representing 27 clusters and 5 SMEs from 18 countries.
- 205 one-to-one business meetings took place, involving representatives of 32 European clusters/SMEs and 31 Singaporean delegates.

CLUSTER BOOSTER ACADEMY - Invitation extended!
For the first time ever,
the ECCP is excited to invite not only cluster managers, but also employees of cluster organisations to join the 3rd Cluster Booster Academy! In this third iteration, we are dedicated to cultivating powerful networks among cluster managers and setting the stage for collaborative opportunities. After two successful editions with Cluster Managers from all over Europe, we want to extend our invitation to their employees as well!
The Academy is a 5-day event consisting of:
- 3-day online training (📅 23-25 January 2024)
- 2-day in person training session in Sofia, Bulgaria (📅 11-12 March 2024), in collaboration with our venue host, the Automotive Cluster Bulgaria.

Formerly the European Resource Efficiency Knowledge Network (EREK), Green Transition Support intends to assist in one of the two pillars of the EU’s industrial strategy towards a green and digital economy, driven by the European Green Deal.

Take a look at how the Mechatronik-Cluster is revolutionising regional development in Upper Austria and beyond.
In 1990, the first ever mechatronics full degree programme was established at Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU). In 2003, the Mechatronics Cluster was founded.
Since then, the cluster has been working closely with other clusters of the region to increase its competitiveness as well as industrial and technological sovereignty.
Established as an integral part of the regional innovation strategy, Mechatronics Cluster is actively used by the public sector to promote regional industrial and digital transformation.

In November 2023, the European Cluster Collaboration Platform remains a steadfast supporter of Ukraine.
A forum has been established to improve the European Union industry's capacity to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and aid Ukrainian refugees in member states. You can participate in this initiative by joining here.
